7th European BSD Conference: Oct 18-19 2008, Strasbourg, France

Transport

Introduction

We recommend that you use public transport in Strasbourg.

Maps of the transport company called CTS, can be found at http://www.cts-strasbourg.fr/. The most useful map is this one urban map. Locate the "Gare Centrale" (train station), the "Esplanade", the "Baggersee" (junction with the airport shuttle) and "Homme de fer" (central point of junction of all tramway lines). The lines you will mostly use to get to town, to the campus or to the train station, are A, C and E.

Tickets for public transport

You need to buy tickets yourselves: get them from any tramway station, where you can buy them. Price starts at 1.40 EUR for a single one way trip of 1 hour max.

Airports around Strasbourg

The closest one is Strasbourg-Entzheim Airport. You can get some information at http://www.strasbourg.aeroport.fr

Baden-Baden Airport (ca. 60 km): check out http://www.badenairpark.de/sub_airport/index-en.html

Basel-Mulhouse Airport (ca. 120 km): check out http://www.euroairport.com/EN/accueil.php

Transport from the Strasbourg-Entzheim airport

Take the bus shuttle from the airport. When you get out of the airport, walk the right side of the building to the shuttle station. It's a 20 minutes trip to the "Baggersee" tramway station and cost near 5 EUR. You buy the ticket from the bus driver. The ticket includes circulation with the tramway for a overall duration that should not exceed one hour.

Once at the "Baggersee" tramway station, leave the bus and get tramway line E heading to Robertsau-Boecklin. Get off at Esplanade and from there walk to Place d'Athènes (in front of the Faculty of Law), than around the Faculty of Law building, and you are on the "rue René Descartes". Just walk another 200 m and you'll find the Atrium building. The map should help you.

Transport from others airports

The easiest way to come to Strasbourg is the train. Shuttles from the airport to the train station are both available in Basel and Baden-Baden.

Train

Strasbourg train station is very close to the center of the town. More informations at: http://www.voyages-sncf.com/leisure/fr/launch/home/ (only in french and probably not very useful for non french travellers).

Transport from the train station

Use line A of the "tram" (tramway) which stops inside the train station, heading to Illkirch-Lixenbuhl. Stop at station "Homme the fer" and go to station of line C in front of the "Printemps" shop. Take the tramway line C heading to "Neuhof Rodolphe Reuss" and get off at Esplanade and from there walk to Place d'Athènes (in front of the Faculty of Law), than around the Faculty of Law building, and you are on the "rue René Descartes". Just walk another 200 m and you'll find the Atrium building. The map should help you.

Car

Traffic in Strasbourg can be very heavy on some hours of the day. Parking is also quite expensive and hard to find close to the center of the town.

Parking at University is bad at weekdays but fine during the weekend. It is free most of the time.

Cabs

Cabs in Strasbourg are reliable, and they all run by meter. They all have a "Taxi" sign on the roof. There are several companies, but as they all use the same meter, you should not care. There is of course a start fee, higher by night. Credit cards are refused by some drivers and none will take it for a trip under 15 EUR. So ask the driver before.

Conference transport

Strasbourg being a rather small town, and the conference taking part in the central campus, there is no need to organize a bus. We prefered preparing daily tickets which are valid for any trip by bus or tramway in the city. You will get them at the registration desk.

Car Pooling

Some car pooling will be available:
